A starting point for your parish
A first gathering.
Thirty minutes of stillness.
Bring people into the church through gentle music, attentive listening, silence, and prayer. Begin on a small scale and shape the gathering around your parish and its Christian worship.
Before you invite people
- Agree the gathering with the person responsible for the church. Choose a time that fits around services and other visitors.
- Invite a church musician and a parish lead to choose the music and any words of prayer. Decide who will welcome people at the door.
- Check seating, step-free access, facilities, and the sound level from the seats. Keep the music gentle and explain that people may step out.
- Confirm the date, duration, booking arrangements, any cost, and a parish contact before sharing an invitation.
A suggested 30-minute programme
- 00–05
Welcome and settle
Explain the simple sequence. Invite people to sit comfortably, listen at their own pace, and put phones on silent.
- 05–15
Listen to live music
Offer gentle organ music, a voice, or another instrument agreed by the parish. Leave a little silence between pieces.
- 15–20
Let the room become quiet
Allow the last notes to fade. Give people unhurried time for their own quiet reflection.
- 20–25
Make space for prayer
The parish lead may offer a short Christian prayer or invite silent prayer, in keeping with the church’s tradition.
- 25–30
Close gently
Finish with a short piece of music or a blessing. Thank people and explain how they can hear about another gathering, if one is planned.
This is a suggested format. Your parish chooses the music, words, timing, and arrangements.
Words for your invitation
Join us for a quiet half-hour of church music, silence, and prayer. Take a seat, listen, and discover the sound of the church. No musical knowledge is needed.
Add your church name and address, confirmed date and time, booking or drop-in details, any cost, access information, and a parish contact.
After the first gathering
Ask visitors what helped them feel comfortable and whether the music was at a suitable level. Talk with the parish team about what worked, then decide together whether to offer another session.
Describe the gathering as an opportunity for listening, relaxation, and spiritual reflection. Avoid promises of healing or medical benefits. Sacred Resonance provides this guide; each parish is responsible for its own gathering.
